The Yoga as Therapy (YAT) course introduces qualified therapists and exercise teachers to the concepts of using yoga exercises (Asana’s) as part of a rehabilitation programme.

The course introduces yoga concepts & methods, and teaches introductory postures in standing, sitting, and lying. Mats (sticky mat) and small equipment (belt, wooden brick, foam block) are used. Students are taught to progress and sequence exercises, and modify them to suit a variety of clinical scenarios.

Clinical reasoning examples are given for common musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, and small class format discussed.

The course emphasizes self practice, observation, movement analysis, planning, cueing & adjustment.

About Dr Chris Norris 

Dr Christopher Norris is a Chartered Physiotherapist (MCSP) who qualified from Pinderfields College in 1981. He gained a Masters degree (MSc) in Exercise Science (physical habilitation) from Liverpool University in 1988 and a Doctorate (PhD) from Staffordshire University in 2009. His PhD research was on spinal rehabilitation. Chris holds postgraduate certification in both Occupational Health (cert OH) and Orthopaedic medicine (MSOM).

An experienced acupuncturist and Dry Needling practitioner, Christopher Norris trained in western acupuncture in the 1980’s with the Society of Biophysical Medicine and gained an advanced certificate in Chinese Acupuncture from Renshu college in London in 1999. He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC), and an advanced member and tutor for the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).

Author and Lecturer

Chris Norris is the author of fourteen books on physiotherapy and exercise, including a textbook on sport injuries (Sports and Soft Tissue Injuries, Routledge), now in its 5th edition, which is the set book on many physiotherapy and sport therapy courses. His book ‘Back Rehabilitation’ (Routledge), now in its 3rd edition has received top reviews in both the UK and USA, and his ‘Complete Guide’ books (Bloomsbury) regular get 4 and 5 star ratings on Amazon . Chris has also produced educational CDs on Back Stability, Acupuncture, Stretching exercise and Weight training, and several of his books are also available in eBook and Kindle format. See his books here

A popular postgraduate lecturer, Dr Norris lectures widely to physiotherapists, doctors and exercise professionals. A keen sportsman, Chris jogs, practices and teaches Yoga, and trains in the gym.  He is a certified Yoga and Pilates teacher, registered with REPS.  He holds a Black Belt in the martial art Ju Jitsu and is a certified coach with the World Ju Jitsu Federation (WJJF).
